Yep. I totally asked for her autograph!

Anne Geddes InstagramI have worked in radio for most of my adult life. I have been super fortunate to meet some pretty amazing ‘famous” people. Because my job was always to interview them for my radio show though, I very rarely would ask for an autograph.

Last weekend I attended Blogger Bash in NYC. Don’t know what a Blogger Bash is, read my post all about it. I will also be posting an entire Blogger Bash wrap up soon because there was so much amazingness that happened, I have to take a minute to collect my thoughts. One of the things I was excited to learn was that famed photographer Anne Geddes was going to be speaking at BabyPalooza during Blogger Bash. I was particularly excited because many many years ago, like 1996, I received her first book Down In The Garden as a gift from an ex-boyfriend’s mom because she knew I admired Anne’s work. I also have her 12 Days of Christmas book and we bring it out every year for Christmas to read with our girls! I mean, who doesn’t love looking at beautiful babies and children in gorgeous settings, costumes and scenes.Baby water

When I found out that Anne was going to be at Blogger Bash, I pulled my Down In The Garden book off the bookshelf and put it in my suitcase. It was actually the first thing I packed. I shlepped that beautiful big purple book all the way to NYC because I thought…when do you have an opportunity to have an author sign a book of hers that is almost twenty years old?! If you are not familiar with Anne Geddes, let me fill you in. That book Down In The Garden was on the NY Times Bestseller list and she ended up on Oprah! Anne’s’ books have been published in 83 countries. She has sold more than 18 million books and 13 million calendars and her books have been translated into 23 different languages. That just scratches the surface of Anne’s awesomeness. Read her whole story here!

Baby flowersWhen I arrived at Blogger Bash with my girlfriend Desiree from Stress Free Baby, she saw one of Anne’s daughter’s Stephanie (also a wonderful photographer) and since Des had met both Stephanie and Anne before, she introduced me. Stephanie immediately grabbed my book to have her mom sign before her speaking engagement started. We sat down and Real Mom Media TV host and writer Joey Fortman, (who also is one of the founders of Blogger Bash), hostedAnne Shot the Anne Geddes interview. We learned alot about Anne’s photography, her techniques, the babies and children she has worked with as well as Anne’s philanthropic work. Just to mention a few, she partnered last year with the March of Dimes, she is a Global Advocate for Shot@Life, a United Nation’s Foundation campaign which aims to provide access to basic life-saving immunizations to children in the developing world annnnnnd more recently Anne is Protecting Our Tomorrows. The Protecting Our Tomorrows: Portraits of Meningococcal Disease series is a global initiative aimed at raising awareness among parents regarding the threat of meningococcal disease and the importance of its prevention. Seriously, all of that AND she has that whole amazing photographer thing going on too!

After Joey was finished talking with Anne, she not only sat and posed for pictures with all of the Blogger Bash attendees who waited in line, but she gave all of us a copy of her new book Lullaby and Good Night and signed them all personally. She not only was so sweet to sign TWO books for me but she chatted with me about
my Down In The Garden book and let me share my little story.
